Allan Kardec’s Birthday

Allan Kardec was born today in 1804 and was known for developing “Spiritism,” the art of talking to the dead. He conducted séances, which were popular at the time. His nom de plume was Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail. Paris has a long history, so there are likely plenty of ghosts walking around and observing the buffoonery that is humanity. What I like about Kardec is that his “Spiritism” justifies my friendship with the ghostly Hemingway.

“When good Americans die, they go to Paris.”

–Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
