Only two guests chose to investigate the crime scene, Tiffany and Todd. Tiffany had tried to convince Kyle to come with her, but he’d refused. She had no idea why he was being so grouchy, but if she had even remotely adequate deduction skills, she’d have known he was still mad about the way she’d ogled Aaron earlier that afternoon.
But had she known that, she would have been pissed off at him in return. She could admire whomever she wanted to. It’s not like she was married to Kyle. Besides, Aaron was dead now, so what would it matter anymore?
The first thing they noticed about the crime scene was the amount of greenish-red fluid in the diving pool. It was hard to miss. It was so thick, you could hardly even see the bottom.
“That’s, like, a whole body’s worth of blood,” Todd said.
“Yeah?”
“Looks like it to me. I wonder what would cause that?”
“Probably all that glass,” Tiffany said, pointing toward the bottom of the pool.
“No, I meant the green color… never mind,” Todd said as he squinted and looked closer at the bottom of the pool.
She was right. It was absolutely littered with thousands of glass shards. Now they knew what had caused the gashes. The real questions now were:
But even as he asked himself those questions, he knew he would not find the answers there at the crime scene. That would defeat the purpose of the game. He was going to have to get more information out of the others. But Tiffany didn’t seem to understand that concept as she continually asked him questions as if he could magically tell her everything she wanted to know.
“Why is the blood green?” she asked.
“I have no idea,” Todd said.
“It seems like a lot of blood. Doesn’t it?”
“Yeah, I guess,” he said.
She was silent for a moment, but only for a precious, fleeting moment.
“So, what do you, like, think happened?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” Todd said. “Figure it out for yourself.”
As much as she’d been annoying him, he still regretted saying those words the moment they left his mouth. At this point, he knew he’d need to stay on as good of terms with others as possible, partly because any of them could be the killer, and the last thing he needed was to piss off the killer and orchestrator of this horror show. But, also, he’d need to rely on getting help from the others if he was to keep surviving.
“Jeez, Todd, I was just asking,” she said, not used to being treated so rudely by a man. “I mean, I was just asking.”
“I know, I’m sorry,” he said. “This whole thing has got me completely on edge.”
“It’s okay,” she said. “I know.”
On one hand, Todd felt relieved that he’d seemingly repaired his standing with Tiffany. But on the other hand, it didn’t mean he was any closer to figuring out why Aaron had bled out so much. Or why his blood was green. And he knew that those two things were really the only things that actually mattered at that moment.
