ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Biologist and poet Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D., lives with her family in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. She is the author of Having Faith: An Ecologist’s Journey to Motherhood; Post-Diagnosis, a volume of poetry; and Living Downstream: An Ecologist’s Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment. Released in a second edition in 2010, Living Downstream is now the subject of an award-winning documentary film produced by the People’s Picture Company of Toronto.
A passionate public speaker, Steingraber lectures in many universities and medical schools. She has provided Congressional briefings, testified before the President’s Cancer Panel, and spoken in the European Parliament and Commission. For her research and writing, she has received the Rachel Carson Leadership Award from Chatham College, the Environmental Health Champion Award from Physicians for Social Responsibility, Los Angeles, and, from Healthy Child, Healthy World, the Mom on a Mission Award for Prevention. In 2010, Steingraber was named one of “25 visionaries who are changing your world” by Utne Reader.
