Chapter 7

Cindy was at home in her chic studio apartment located in the heart of the Jing’an District. It was a warm Saturday afternoon, and she was trying to fry egg noodles with one hand while holding her cell phone with the other.

“I’m not your spy,” she snapped.

Cindy listened to the person on the phone for a few minutes and then said, “I don’t have time.”

She turned off the stove and paced the room, trying to focus on her conversation.

Finally, Cindy said, “Not so far, but I’ll let you know what happens.”

She then hung up the phone without saying goodbye.

Filled with irritation, Cindy threw her burnt food into the trash and opened the window to air out the fumes. Having lost her appetite, she threw on her Burberry raincoat and headed out of her apartment.

As Cindy waited for the elevator, in the open air hallway, she used her cell phone to make a call. “Alright, how many shares do I need to buy?”

The elevator opened and Cindy entered while listening to the person whom she had called. Finally, she responded, “No, I don’t care about that. Just make sure I’m a controlling shareholder.”
