Introduction to Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine

Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine are an integral part of every day clinical medicine in both primary, as well as secondary care. New pharmaceutical products are being discovered and relevant guidelines are constantly under review. In this book, we have made every effort to refresh and update knowledge by carefully selecting clinical reviews on cardiology and respiratory medicine published in The BMJ in the past 7 years.

Clinical reviews from The BMJ provide a clear, up to date account of the topic in a collaborative venture including general physicians, cardiologists and chest physicians as well as general practitioners, epidemiologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists and pharmacists.

We have attempted to select and include the clinical reviews that provide a thorough, useful, ready-to-use knowledge on common cardio-respiratory conditions. Our intention is to cover some of the major topics in the field and provide answers to clinical questions relating to everyday clinical practice situations. However, there is no book that can compete with the pace of literature. This book provides the reader with relevant references to further their knowledge and understanding. The reader should use this book as their starting point of their challenging journey into the world of evidence based medicine rather than an answer to every clinical question.
