Note on translations

Where feasible and accepted by scholars, authors use English titles for texts. For the benefit of students and other readers without knowledge of ancient Greek and Latin, the authors quote English translations in the main text, and the original in a footnote (if necessary). Unless otherwise indicated by individual authors, translations of the primary source texts in this book are as follows:
