The last minute or two of The Simpsons, after our final commercial break, is known as “the tag”—in other words, an unsightly object that can and should be removed. The show went twenty years without having a tag before Fox decided we needed one.
Anything goes in a Simpsons tag. Sometimes we wrap up a dangling plot thread, sometimes it’s a complete non sequitur. A few times, it’s even been a scene cut from the middle of the show; it wasn’t good enough for act 2, but it’s good enough for act 4.
Some tags are truly inspired, some are just crap to fill things out. You can decide which this one is.
