Monkeys like to chatter,

And bees like to hum,

But there lives a certain fish

Who burps out its bum.

The way that we converse

Sets each of us apart,

But I promise you it’s true

There’s a fish that talks in ‘fart’.

With a little pop of gas

And the swish of a fin,

The herring speaks to friends

By way of breaking wind.

Flatulence and fluffs,

Bottom burps and squeakers,

Make up the rich vocabulary

Of native herring speakers.

But the herring’s not embarrassed,

No, the herring farts with pride,

For by talking from their bottoms,

They swim neatly side by side.

Pop Poppy Pop Pop

Could mean, ‘How do you do?’

While POP! POP! POP! POP!

Means, ‘Look out! I’m coming through!’
