Epilogue

“Please tell me you’re ready?” Nakida panted.

Jakobe closed the space in a matter of three steps to reach her side.

“The bags are in the car, and Ms. Vista will meet us at the hospital,” he reported in a rush.

Niamh glanced up at her clearly nervous son. She hoped Cabhan would be a better help when she gave birth to their little girl. She moved out of the way to allow Jakobe to help Nakida to her feet.

“You’re going to be fine. You’ll get to the hospital, and it will be all over,” he promised.

Nakida cut her eyes at him. He must be a damned fool it that was what he was thinking. He obviously wasn’t paying attention to their last doctor visit when Ms. Vista warned them both that the first delivery was usually a long and grueling one.

“It’s not going to be that easy, Kobe.” She groaned. The lightening that was shooting through her core was almost rendering her unmovable.

“Yes, it is,” he pressed.

“Kobe, this isn’t like taking a crap. It has to work its way… Oh, no!” she whaled.

She looked down at the ground as water splashed on the hardwood floors in dismay.

“We can argue when I get you there,” stated Jakobe as he picked her up into his arms.

He didn’t care about the fluid that wet his arms and front of his clothes. He placed her in the car, strapped her down, and ran around to the driver side as his parents got into the back seat. He got in then looked back.

“I don’t think I should drive,” he admitted.

“Ugh, somebody, help his ass, please,” thundered Nakida.

Quickly, everyone switched places. Nakida got in the back with Jakobe. Cabhan was in the driver’s seat, and Niamh sat in the passenger.

“Keep your legs close. Don’t push, no matter how bad you want to,” ordered Niamh as Cabhan weaved in and out of traffic.

“I love you,” whispered Jakobe while he rubbed her huge belly.

He felt a rush of excitement at the feel of the baby that was longing to breathe the fresh air turned inside of her.

“I know.” She groaned.

“Shit, I hate this: seeing you in pain.”

“Then you shouldn’t have let it all fly then, huh?” She grunted.

“I hope our baby girl has that fire. I want her to give her husband hell.” Jakobe chuckled.

He pushed her hair from her wet forehead with loving hands. She glanced up to behold his handsome face. She knew that all the pain in the world wouldn’t change the joy she had experienced with him and the pregnancy. She would never forget how she had watched him put together the crib, or how he had bathed her when he started to fear she would fall in the shower. How he would get her food in the wee hours of the morning, or how he would read every night to the baby in which his deep voice would put Nakida to sleep every time.

Unable to resist, she pulled his head down to her lips. She kissed him passionately. Jakobe’s blue eyes sparkled.

“Six whole weeks.” He moaned with a deep eye roll.

“Yes, and that included my mouth too,” she added.

He roared with laughter.

Four hours later, Jakobe’s gloved hands caught their seven-pounds-fifteen ounce, baby girl, Fiona Laila. It took some cleaning before her dark, honey wrinkled skin shone through. They giggled in awe at the thick, curly, soft black hair that covered her crown.

“She has your mouth.” He chuckled before Nakida silenced her with her nipple. “Don’t smother her.” He frowned.

Her breasts were too big, in his opinion, to be feeding such a tiny thing.

“Do you want to do it?” snapped Nakida.

He tilted his head. He had dreamt of nursing from her engorged breasts. His gaze lingered while he licked his lips. “I would love to taste your milk,” he mumbled, causing the staff in the room to look. “You know there’s only one thing on me that leaks white milk.” He groaned, dropping a kiss on her lips.

Clearing her voice, Ms. Vista cocked an eyebrow. “Six weeks,” she reminded them firmly.

However, eight weeks later, she strolled into her office to slap an object on the desk. “I know I said… Didn’t I say, no sex for six weeks!” roared Ms. Vista.

The pair eyed the positive pregnancy test sheepishly. Unfazed by the midwife's rant, Jakobe kissed his beautiful wife, Nakida. Netflix and chill never meant just watching TV. How could he when he had such an amazing woman? No one could love him like her.

THE END…
