Don’t we all dream of having a beautiful bathroom at home that combines luxury, sophistication, glamour, and practicality? At some point, every bathroom needs a refresh. But often a simple refresh isn’t possible, and a total rethink is what’s ultimately needed to transition from drab to dramatic. Taking inspiration from the rich character and ornate detail in Victorian homes, the design of this bathroom marries the simplicity and style of a classically timeless black-and-white palette with an accent of saturated colour.
If a “back to the studs” gut job is on the agenda and you’ve got a roomy bathroom space to work with, why not play around with the layout and see if you can dream up a better overall plan for what goes where? You may not be able to alter certain fixed elements, but part of the excitement of renovating is redefining how to make the room work best for your lifestyle.
The key to any successful renovation project is making the most of the challenges you encounter. To move the vanity beside the window, the wall needed to be built out about 5 inches to conceal the pipes. Instead of building out the entire wall, I designed a built-in backsplash and ledge to offer a pretty place to keep bathroom necessities close at hand (and out of the way) while solving a practical issue.
