DREW

Any writer, except the preternaturally talented ones, knows that writing requires acts of willful isolation. I would like to thank my wife for putting up with the shambling space cadet of a partner that she finds whenever I’m writing. Without her patience, there would be no book. With that said, Honey, do you want a beer?

Thanks to the crew at Voyageur Press for allowing Denny and me the opportunity to explore what experimental homebrewing is all about. Thanks to Thom for taking a jumbled heap of words and finding a book inside of them.

Thanks to the Maltose Falcons, America’s oldest homebrew club, who gave me a home, taught me everything I know, and gave me an opportunity to teach them, too. (That and they put up with all the blowback from my crazy ideas.) That goes double for the Brewgyver himself, Kent Fletcher, without whom most of my good ideas would still be scribbles on a desk.

Thanks to everyone who asks questions, from the clubs to the forums and the Reddits of the world. You force me to confront the number of things I don’t know and continue to astonish me with the wide breadth of things you’re doing.

Thanks to all our IGORs who’ve helped us with guidance and all the IGORs to come at www.ExperimentalBrew.com.

And of course, thanks to Denny, the man with two red shoes (Converse, natch). He’s been the Ben to my Jerry, the Statler to my Waldorf, the Laverene to my Shirley. He’s always maintained a sense of fun and play, and that’s just what this book needed, man!

DENNY

My contribution to this book could never have happened without the love and support of my wife. She bought me my first homebrewing kit and stood by me while I got caught in the whirlwind. (I like to think that she would still have bought me that kit even if she had known what would happen.)

Thanks to Thom, our editor for this book and the fifth Beatle in the band.

Thanks to my homebrew club, the Cascade Brewers Society, for their support and for allowing me to practice my wackiness all these years.

Thanks to homebrewers all over the world. Remember, you learn from those before you, so pay it forward to those coming after you.

Finally, huge thanks to Drew, who invited me to coauthor this book. Not only is he a great brewer, he’s a great friend. I value that above all else, and I appreciate all your work and help on this book, buddy!
