You and two other boys go to the barracks with Dines. He shows you around as you talk to the soldiers of the 29th. You are about to leave when you overhear Sergeant Daniels say, “We’ve put up with the insults of these Bostonians long enough. It’s time to show them who’s in charge.”
When you return to your lodgings, apprentice Edward Garrick says he’s going out. “If there’s a fight, I want to be there. You should come too.”
You sneeze. Your head feels fuzzy. “I’m catching a cold. Maybe I’ll stay in.”
“Come with me to the apothecary,” apprentice Bartholomew Broaders says. “Mr. Green, who lives in the Custom House, asked me to walk his daughter and her friend there. They’ll have medicines if you feel sick.”
