Act 1, Scene 1

The city square in ancient Rome.

Long ago in ancient Rome, crowds filled the city square

Their hero, Caesar, coming home, would soon be marching there.

His path they strew with flowers sweet, they shouted his acclaim

’Twas their intent to give him due for deeds done in their name.

But other men, of jealous mind, were watching too that day

And fearful for their lordly place joined with the crowd to say…

"Why praise him so? Why hold him high? He’s just a mortal man

Your senseless cheers just goad him on, to rule us if he can."

But changing not the people’s mood, they quickly went their way

To join with others, hatch a plot, to shorten Caesar’s day…
