Act 5, Scene 4

The battlefield.

Once more the battle ebbed and flowed, but as the day wore on

Brutus saw his legions fall, his chance of winning gone.

Retreating to a shaded rock, he called his last few friends

"Oh, band of brothers, on this spot is where our venture ends.

"Our enemies have won the day, we stand upon a rim

I will not tarry till I’m pushed, I choose now to leap in.

Night hangs heavy on mine eyes, my history is done

Which of you will hold my sword whilst I upon it run?"

Only one would heed his plea and taking up the sword

Said, “This I do in love for you. Farewell, my good sweet lord.”

Brutus bade him, “Turn your face, I do this in goodwill.”

And as he ran upon his sword, cried… “Caesar… now be still!”

A victorious Antony arrives and looking down at the body of Brutus, says…

"Here lies the noblest of them all, a man of honest thought

Only he of those who planned was not with envy bought.

His life was gentle, kind and pure, such good within him ran

That all the world should stand, and say in truth… this was a Man."
