Wonderful layers are created with alcohol inks applied over stencils onto Claybord. Molding paste applied through stencils adds another dimension. For this project, you’ll use watercolor pencils, antiquing creams and paint layers for added depth.

Use glazes or gel mediums with paint as an alternative to antiquing creams.
Lightly mist the Claybord with water and rub the water into the surface. Place the stencil onto the surface and apply alcohol inks over the stencil. Spritz alcohol or blending alcohol medium and move the alcohol inks around. Let the alcohol inks soak into the Claybord, then remove the stencil and let everything dry.
Apply molding paste through the stencil. Remove the stencil and let the molding paste dry.
On the ink side, use colored pencil to add shadow. Then blend the lines using matte medium.
Apply watered-down blue, teal, white and orange paint to the molding paste pattern. Let the paints dry and then apply red and white antiquing creams. Use a paper towel to remove as much as you like after the creams have dried. When satisfied, seal with matte medium or varnish and apply another layer. Finish with a satin varnish or faux encaustic medium of your choice.
