The Programmer

The programmer resolved to develop a piece of software that would love him, and he made it his life’s work. After one day of programming, the program could emit a series of notes sounding the words “I love you,” but only because that is how he coded her. His goal was to make her really mean it. A research grant enabled the programmer to devote all his waking hours to rewriting and refining the program. After many years, one day at twilight, she told him: “I love you.” He kept on programming, even though the words had come from the depths of her soul.
