Cedar Rapids Transit was back in modified operation one week after the flood.
More than 150 inspectors were dispatched daily after the floodwaters receded.
As ofJuly 29, 2008—forty-six days after the crest—72,428 tons of debris had been collected and removed from affected areas.
Of the 1,834 homes affected by the flood in the 100-year floodplain, 666 had flood insurance coverage—a total of $107,148,100.
The assessed value of the residential properties in the 100-year floodplain was $175,897,331; commercial properties were assessed at a total of $206,816,896; industrial properties were assessed at $84,381,882.
Within the first week of flood recovery, more than 2,700 contractors were certified, representing more than 400 companies. By August 19, 2008, more than 6,240 contractors had been certified from 856 companies.
One hundred twenty families in the flood areas were receiving Section 8 housing assistance at the time of the flood.
During the first three weeks of the disaster, 169 citizens were in temporary shelters.
