204. The Führer signs the Munich Agreement.
Adolf Hitler adds his signature to the Munich Agreement as his personal aide and adjutant, SS-Obergruppenführer (Lieutenant-General) Julius Schaub (second from right) looks on. Just one of a number of personal adjutants, Schaub held this position from 1940 until 1945. On 22 April 1945, Schaub, on Hitler’s orders, travelled to the Berghof where, as instructed, he destroyed all the Führer’s personal documents and paperwork. On the extreme right Joachim von Ribbentrop, German Foreign Minister observes the moment. Following lengthy discussions and final agreement, the paperwork was signed in Hitler’s office in the Führerbau (Führer Building) in the Königsplatz in Munich (see postcard number 26) at around 2.30a.m. on the morning of 30 September 1938. Standing in the background Göring and Mussolini appear locked in conversation on events.
