205. Prime Minister Chamberlain signs the Munich Agreement.
Neville Chamberlain carefully adds his signature to the Agreement under the watchful eye of Mussolini who leans on the chair behind the British Premier. The reverse of this postcard carries a commemorative postmark reading; ‘Sudetenland durch Adolf Hitler frei, Okt. 1938’ (The Sudetenland is free through Adolf Hitler, Oct. 1938). While the Agreement was concluded on 30 September; it was the following day 1 October 1938, that German forces crossed the Czech border to peacefully occupy the Sudetenland. The local German-speaking population welcomed the German troops showering them with flowers as they marched through the streets
