One might be forgiven for believing that construction in the region during the Nazi period was confined to the area of the Obersalzberg alone, but this is not so. Other buildings were constructed in and around the town of Berchtesgaden itself. When completed, these structures performed various functions including administration, accommodation, security and transport.
The railway station, as previously mentioned, had been rebuilt and enlarged to cope with the increased volume of visitors to the area. On re-opening in 1937, the new station was of a scale such as one might expect to find in a city at that time rather than a small Alpine market town.
The postcards in the following section, numbers 297 to 328 cover the majority of these buildings, all of which remain standing today.
