48. Café Restaurant Steiner on the Obersalzberg.

Built in 1883 this stylish property was situated by the roadside a short distance below Haus Wachenfeld. The Steiner was an integral part of the small community of Obersalzberg. Johann and Thekla Kurz bought Gasthof Steiner in 1920. They had a flourishing business; for in addition to being a café and restaurant, a post-office and a bakery were also located on the premises. Flying the flag however did not prevent the owners losing this fine property; like so many in the vicinity of Hitler’s residence the Steiner was demolished soon after Bormann bought the property in March 1937.
