50. Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden with Landhaus Göring. Bavarian Highlands.
This postcard clearly reveals the elevated position enjoyed by the Göring family home on the Obersalzberg in relation to other buildings in the immediate area. Landhaus (country house) Göring is seen standing in open ground on the right. Built in 1934 the property offered commanding views over the entire region, together with a level of privacy beyond that of other residents. The house stood in that part of the Obersalzberg known as Eckerbichl, the most beautiful and sunny spot on the mountain. As we can see the Obersalzberg village still existed when this photograph was taken in late 1934 early 1935.
Bearing a postmark dated 22.8.35; it was around this time that Haus Wachenfeld underwent its greatest transformation, a metamorphosis from which the Berghof would emerge. It was also around this time that Bormann began showing an interest in acquiring the home of Dr Richard Seitz.
