Seven Months Later
As Myles paced the drawing room, awaiting word about his wife and child, his mind drifted back to the past year. A year which held good and bad memories. Marrying Bella was the best thing he’d ever done. Not a day went by that he didn’t profess his love.
His cousin, Gerard, after having spent a month in Newgate, had gone to the gallows. It still bothered him that he never saw the insanity that gripped him, until it was too late. If he had, Catherine may still be alive today.
“Excuse me, Milord, Milady is asking for you,” the housekeeper said with a huge smile.
Myles, heart pounding, bound up the stairs two at a time and ran down the hall, bursting into their chambers.
“Come meet your son.” Bella rested up in bed against the pillows, smiling and looking beautiful.
He smiled and approached the bed, dropping a kiss on her forehead. “Thank you. How are you feeling?”
“Tired.”
“Doctor?” Myles could hardly breathe as he waited for the doctor to speak.
“Your ladyship did wonderfully. She needs rest. But all is well with mother and child.”
Before the floor rose up to meet him, he sank down on the side of the bed and gently caressed his son’s head. A head full of auburn hair, much like his own. “Can we name him after my father?” he asked as his heart expanded to make room for another person to love.”
“Yes.” Bella reached for his hand and curled her fingers with his. Welcome to the world baby Richard.”
Myles let his tears travel down his cheeks without shame. He would never, ever fight crying tears of joy. Not after what they’d been through.
