* Beacon was the emblematic Facebook product fiasco. Launched in 2007, before online (over)sharing was commonplace, Beacon posted your Web browsing activity to your feed. The oft-cited Beacon disaster was a real-life guy shopping for an engagement ring, and the putative fiancée finding out about his imminent proposal via Facebook. Awkward! Beacon resulted in a class-action suit and was soon officially shut down. On the old campus, Facebook had a series of conferences rooms named after ill-conceived disasters: Land War in Southeast Asia, Knife to a Gun Fight, and . . . Beacon!
