Anxiety and the Spleen

When a person is worried due to a sense of uneasiness and fear caused by danger or uncertainty, it would affect the digestive system. In a modern society, whereby we are subject to various uncertainties, most of us would suffer anxiety to a certain extent.

Prolonged anxiety would cause negative energy to react with the spine, causing spleen energy to congest. This affect the digestive system and cause the loss of appetite, chest and abdominal flatulence, blurred vision, palpitation, insomnia and loss of memory, as well as anxiety state of depression.

The spleen paired with the stomach are part of the digestive system in Chinese medicine and hence anxiety would cause indigestion.

Patients are normally advised not to engage in conversation during meals as it may lead to arguments and caused indigestion.
