10.0   THE PRICE WE PAY FOR POOR HEALTH.

I wrote this section as this may be the actual price that I may have paid for not looking after my health adequately. I told myself that I would start looking after my health after I had retired. But before I retired I paid a price in relation to my career as well as undergoing a major by-pass surgery.

There is a saying “When we are young, we use our health to buy wealth, when we are old we use our health to buy wealth.”

We normally associate the price we pay for health as being sick and hence spending some money for consultation and drugs and hence recovered from it. As such many refuse to go the extra miles to exercise regularly or consume healthy food for better health. By the time their health condition is so serious, no money can buy back their health. Hundreds of thousand may be spent but to no avail. I have heard of a lady who had spent about AUS 500 thousand after being inflicted with breast cancer but still unable to survive.

With the progress in medical science, many common disease can be relieved by western medical practitioner through the use of drugs and antibiotic. However lately we begin to notice that the virus strain is becoming stronger and more resistant to drugs thereby resulting in more dangerous species of virus that were once easily destroyed. E.g. Japanese encephalitis (JE), new strain of malaria in Vietnam, a more drug resistance strain of tuberculosis in Russia.

Although medical advance had reduced the number of death by common disease and hence an increase in the life expectancy, a careful analysis of life expectancy charts reveal that little had been done to enhance life expectancy after the age of 40.

Today people are dying from degenerative disease and cancer.

Degenerative disease are not cause by germs or virus, but to the wearing out of tissues and organs of the body which adversely affect the immune system.

If we are spared death from heart disease, we might succumb to a stroke as a result of deteriorating brain blood vessels. If our brain vessel remains healthy, death might come from kidney failure.

Ideally a person will have vigor, enthusiasm and cheerfulness every day of his life. Everyone has a certain store of vitality-reservoir of energy. Sickness would rob some of this energy. The price that we pay, when the store of energy had been robbed is enormous, but very often overlooked by many people. Normally, without looking at the patient, if they describe some of the symptoms, I would be able to describe certain aspect of their emotional status and personality.

For example, if the person is suffering from flatulence and stomach problem, I would be able to deduce that this person is having the following character, worried unnecessary, anxiety, and easily confused when stress.

Let’s look into the price that a half healthy person has to pay for postponing such expense to pursue material satisfaction. The price to be paid is a vicious cycle that also affect the next generation.

Fatigue

Normally caused by the degeneration of the various vital organs due to wear and tear that affect its ability to work under clockwork efficiency. Circulation of blood in bringing nutrients and oxygen to the whole body is impeded thereby resulting in poorer ability to remove metabolic waste from the body. The body is hence inadequately nourished thereby causing imbalance and discomfort.

The organs are sending signals to the central nervous system to slow down and manifested in the form of fatigue. Stress and insufficient rest also cause fatigue. One of the duties of your vital organs is to remove toxin during period of rest. Stress causes more secretion of the hormones which if suppress would turn into toxic chemicals.

Continuous stress will hurt the adrenal glands. This chemicals would cause blood to coagulate and hence affecting the smooth circulation of the blood. Meanwhile, our body need rest to remove toxin from the body.

This is the reason that the urine has stronger odor in the morning, the corner of the eyes has waste, the tongue is coated white or yellow in the morning, and breath is stronger in the morning. Insufficient rest means that more metabolic waste will be stored in the body.

Poor Concentration/listening

When the brain cells is not adequately nourished, it will not function effectively and when a person is mentally tired, he would not be able to remain focus and concentrated. Even a simple act of listening can be difficult. Students, office workers and those requiring to use mental power would find it frustrating to focus on their studies and/or work.

Sometimes the person would not be able to complete their work efficiently as their mind are confused and unable to set priority on the jobs to be done.

When they are doing one job, their minds would start thinking of another job which would end up all jobs half completed. Poor concentration would normally relate to poor blood circulation, and fatigue.

Concentration involves the ability of the mind to listen attentively, focus on their specific jobs and see it to completion, carefully observed a situation and understand it effectively.

Clarity in thoughts

A person with poor concentration and listening ability would not be able to grasp completely what is being communicated. The neurotransmitter in his brain is transmitting information at a slow pace that he lack sharpness. As such he is unable to get all the information to enable his brain to process all the information required to think logically.

The mind would be very confuse and his ability to process information logically is impaired. E.g. People at high attitude where the oxygen level is low would act irrationally.

When a person do not have clarity in thoughts, a simple problem would take up a lot of energy to resolve and hence robbing a person of more energy and vitality. Such a person would be exhausted easily. A person who lack clarity in thoughts also lacks creativity.

Clarity in thoughts is the ability of the mind to process all information transmitted and comparing to past experience or personal knowledge to provide an effective solution.

Poor communication

A person who had poor concentration power and weak ability to think logically would not be able to communicate their thoughts efficiently.

This person would also find it difficult to grasp what others had communicated to him and hence giving unrelated view during conversations. Under such environment, conversation becomes boring and they may not share mutual interest.

Moreover, a person with low vitality and energy level would find it very exhausting to keep conversation long and interesting. Instruction given and instruction received may not be clear.

Communication is a process of sharing one’s thoughts and exchanging information.

Frustration and Bad Temper

When communication is poor and message are not delivered effectively, the person would become frustrated and could easily lose temper. This process injured the heart and liver. Jobs assigned are not effectively carried out causing the person to undergo numerous stress that rob a person of more vitality and energy. The adrenal and kidney would be affected.

When a person is frustrated and short temper, more brain cells would be destroyed causing more confusion in thoughts. The relevant internal organs are also affected depending on the various types of emotions exhibited.

A person with weak liver and adrenal could fall into an uncontrolled rage as exhibited by those road bullies.

Frustration is a sign of despair caused by inability to complete assignment or an ability to communicate effectively.

Poor Relationship.

Fatigue, poor concentration, poor communication leads to frustration and bad temper. This made a person to be in bad mood regularly that may damage relationship amongst friends, colleague and relatives, depending on how the other party reacts.

Hence his network of friends would be rather restricted as others would find it more worthwhile to avoid him.

Lost Opportunity

A person who could not communicate and is unable to establish a strong relationship with relatives, friends and colleague would begin to withdraw into their cocoon and end up a loner. Such person is moody, not cheerful and unfriendly.

We need friends to progress. We may even need to impress others and give them confidence in order to create opportunities in business or even in job advancement. A person that is difficult to deal with would have little opportunities for further progress.

People who are able to communicate well and associate themselves with successful persons would be able to create more opportunities for themselves.

Opportunity is an environment for a person to exploit a situation towards a beneficial goals and/or a noble intention based on one’s creativity, confidence and knowledge.

A failure waits for opportunity but is unaware even if one exist while a successful man create opportunities through exposing oneself to various situations and take immediate actions to fulfill his mission.

Poor Self Esteem.

As a person becomes more isolated, he would start having doubts upon himself. He may start focusing on his weakness and negative characteristic instead of focusing on his strength and hence will have low self-esteem. Some may hide their low self-esteem by being arrogant and defensive and not able to accept others opinion with an open mind.

When such self-doubts begins to set in, such a person would begin losing confidence in himself. People who lack self-confidence would not be mentally strong to face challenges. They become more negative and is unable to recognize their potential. Such people would normally associate themselves with a group of people who also share the same low esteem and who are negative in thoughts. They will then become more negative and depress.

Self-esteem is a measurement of one own self-worth, confidence and creative ability.

Fear/Anxiety

A person having one of the above weaknesses would make more mistakes.

Although, human are not perfect and is prone to mistake, people with low self-esteem would magnify the mistakes as a major disaster, irrespective of how small is the mistakes. The person would no longer be able to interpret such mistakes as a part of lesson in life that will make a person mentally strong and more prepared to take bigger challenges. Such person would develop a phobia of making mistakes.

Excessive fear harm the kidney.

Fear is manifested in one’s mind due to his perceived inability to cope with challenges and/or perceived judgment by another person

Excuse

In a society that frown upon mistakes, people of low self-esteem and fear of making mistakes would avoid challenges. Hence they will start making excuse to convince their subconscious mind why they should not do certain things. Such excuse when made consistently would become a habit which would become a part of their life. Such person will ended up postponing jobs to be done and may rush through it at the last minute.

An excuse is an act of self-convincing to avoid taking up responsibility without feeling guilty or manifested by the fear of ones inability in coping with challenges

Poor commitment

When there is a habit of giving excuse to refrain from doing things, there will be a lack of commitment to complete the work he has to perform. For instance, instead of challenging himself to complete an assignment with flying colors in order to derive satisfaction, a person would regard that the jobs assigned to him as merely a duty to be completed in order to get one’s salary at the end of the month.

He does not enjoy his work as he is not challenging his ability and creativity. He would not look for new opportunities.

A commitment is a promise by oneself to undertake a responsibility to fulfill his mission to the best of his ability.

Lack of Knowledge and skill

When a person starts giving excuse and not being committed, he is not inclined to search for knowledge to widen his knowledge and ability. With the advancement of technology and the increasing proliferation of knowledge through the Internet, it is important that a person must accumulate as much knowledge as possible in order to be competitive. Lack of knowledge will further lower a person self-esteem and the ability to meet challenges.

Knowledge is a tool that equip a person with the necessary skill in handling various situation and understanding of how things are done.

Goals in life.

A person with low self-esteem would not be convince of his ability to achieve great things in life. He would not have the courage to think big and doubt his ability to meet challenges in order to meet his intended goals. When he has such doubts, he would not set his goals in life on his own accord and execute them with full confidence and commitment. He may have the desire to be rich, well respected and achieve high position in life, but he is not specific on his requirement.

A goal in life is a vision of what a person desire to achieve at a specific period.

Plan

A person who does not have a goal in life on their own accord and inability to have faith on his ability to achieve, would not take steps in working a plan to reach their intended goals. As he is not specific in what he wants, he is unable to define clearly the manner in which he reach the intended goals.

Next Generation-Health

A parents who is not healthy will pass some of their problems to their offspring. The children will be born with some hereditary defects that may affect them for their whole life.

I have noticed that for some of participant of motivation program becomes highly charged after the program, but the motivation level weaken after sometimes. I relate the major problem is the health aspect of the person.
