Mia Cunningham tried to come up with a new excuse to get rid of the guy that was currently hitting on her to no end. Why he couldn't take no for an answer was seriously beyond her. She had wanted a nice drink and a quiet night to enjoy herself. Since she ran out of wine at home, she decided to come to the bar instead of buying herself more alcohol. Now she wished she had done the latter.
"I have a boyfriend," she told the man coolly as she glanced around the room looking for an escape.
"So where is he then? How could he leave such a pretty woman like you by herself? It's just my luck I stumbled onto you."
Instead of being dissuaded, the man moved even closer to her to the point Mia had to adjust her body to avoid touching him. "Listen—"
"Hey, sweetheart. Sorry, it took me so long to get here." A deep voice with a hint of a French accent at Mia's side had her eyes sliding away from the annoying man.
Before she could react to the new one, he was wrapping his arm around her waist and dropping a kiss on her cheek. When he pulled back, Mia stared at him, shocked.
The first word that came to her mind was gorgeous. His hair was a striking lightning blue that complimented his brilliant gray eyes, which were surrounded my eyelashes women would kill for. A slight shadow of hair laid against his chiseled jaw, bringing attention to his sharp cheekbones and a sole dimple just left his plush, pink lips. Above those kissable lips was a straight, narrow nose. As Mia let her eyes fall down to take in the rest of his body. Covering his slim form was a baby blue button up paired with a navy suit jacket and a pair of ripped jeans.
He winked at her as if urging her to play along. Well, if it got rid of the creep that wouldn't leave her alone, she was cool with him. Then she could just get rid of this handsome devil later.
"Hey, honey." She greeted as she proceeded to wrapped her arms around Mr. Blue. "I hate when you keep me waiting. Things like this always happen." She cast aside glance at the other man.
The man looked between the two of them as if not wanting to believe it's true. "You aren't really her boyfriend."
"I am. And I would appreciate it if you now turn around and leave my girlfriend and me alone." The man's bright face turn into a dark scowl that would scare anyone in their right mind.
The guy gave Mia one last glance before making his face up and stalking away.
Mia let out a breath of relief, dropping her arms from Mr. Blue. "Thank you for that. It's much appreciated." With a smile, she said, "Shall I buy you a drink as a thanks?"
Mr. Blue shook his head. "No, thank you. Instead, would you like to return the favor for the next ten minutes?"
"Return the favor? As in, pretend to be your girlfriend?"
His eyes briefly left hers as he nodded. "Starting now. By the way, my name is Beau."
Before Mia could get another word in, a woman stunning enough to be a model approached her and Beau. "So, this is her." The woman looked Mia up and down with a calculating gaze.
"I'm Mia. Nice to meet you." Mia instantly held out her hand, remembering she hadn't even told the man her name.
The woman took Mia's hand in hers, giving it a slight shake. "Mia? I thought your name was Alice." Her eyes trailed over to Beau.
"It is. That's her middle name. Right, honey?" Beau's arm tighten at Mia's waist.
It took everything in her not to shake her head or laugh at the ridiculousness that was taking place here. "Yes. That's correct. I'm Mia Alice Cunningham. Everyone calls me Alice, but close friends call me Mia."
"Ah..."
Despite the woman nodding her head in understanding, Mia doubted she believed a word her and Beau were saying. Just what had she gotten into? Mia hoped Beau wasn't using her as some can of scape goat after working the other woman over. Not that she understood why anyone in their right mind would want to do that to such a pretty woman.
"And you two have been together for a year now?"
Mia clenched her teeth and nodded. "Yup. We've been crazy in love ever since meeting—"
"At the cultural festival." Beau inserted.
"The cultural festival that you don't even like going to?" The woman began to shake her head as she said, "Beau, you're being—"
"Listen, Victoria, my girlfriend and I would like to spend the night alone. You met her as you requested. Now, please leave." Beau's voice held authority that left no room for objection.
Mia felt herself becoming even more attracted to the guy. Something about a man that didn't take shit from anyone was seriously a turn on. Too bad she wasn't interested in any type of relationship right now after her most recent breakup.
"Fine. I'll leave. But, you have to promise to bring Miss Mia to our families' retreat tomorrow." Victoria smile became icy.
Mia didn't even have time to open her mouth to ask about this before Beau was replying smoothly. "Of course, she'll be there. We'll see you then."
With that, Beau pulled Mia off her seat, dragging her away from the bar and to a table in the back corner. He pushed her into the booth, quickly scooting in after her, getting very close in her personal space. "It'll only be for a second until she leaves."
Though slightly uncomfortable, Mia nodded, watching the woman over his shoulder until she disappeared out the front door. "She's gone."
