Beau couldn't help but grin as Mia gazed around with a look he would call horror. There was a banner hanging up on the main hut's dining room wall reading "It's twins!". Blue and pink balloons decorated the room along with streamers. There was a makeshift buffet on the table and as well as cake with a crib for a topping.
"Beau..." She said between clenched teeth.
"I tried to take care of it, you see, but my mother was just so excited..." When she glared at him, he assured her. "It'll be fine, I promise. After we return home, I'll say you went to the doctor to get checked out and discovered it was a false alarm."
"My goodness, but you are crazy," she murmured with a shake of her head.
Luckily, she still played along with it all, never once hinting at the fact it was all a lie. Beau wasn't sure how he would ever thank Mia for going all with all of this nonsense. Yeah, her coming along for a free trip was nice, but he felt she deserved more than that.
Maybe he could let her keep the ring that glitter brightly on her finger.
Or maybe he could ask her on a real date.
There had been more than one time he found himself wishing that they were truly together and not lying to his parents. Mia was just the type of woman that made of man want to hold on tight and never let go. She matched his personality perfectly. He loved how she had even taken it upon herself to shoot back her own pickup lines from time to time.
He had always used them as a guard against women, hoping to ward off those that cared nothing for him. But with Mia, he actually meant some of the things he said. Like wanting to kiss her until the end of time. A few times they had come close to it, both unable to fight the pull between them, but Mia always pushed away at the last moment.
He figured it was simply because she just wasn't that into him.
"So Beau, I was thinking, instead of waiting a month to have the wedding, why not have it here while we have the whole family together."
Those words pulled Beau out of his thoughts and back to the conversation with his mother. "What?"
"Everyone thinks it's a good idea. Since Mia doesn't have any family, we won't have to worry about her missing anyone. And it will be hard for everyone to get time off again after only a month off of vacation."
"Mom."
But his mother didn't hear him, instead rambling on about how great of a ceremony it would be. She spoke of how much she liked Mia and how she would be a nice addition to the family. Her favorite part of the fact she would be a grandmother soon, having wanting grandkids for so long now. She had even mention that she had called up a ministry from a local island to ordain the ceremony.
"Mom, slow down."
"But, Beau. It'll be perfect, I swear. I even found a nice white dress a few islands over. I have it hidden in my bedroom—"
"We're not getting married!"
"Of course you're getting married. You have babies on the way, Beau. Don't think that I'll allow you to just forgo your children like some—"
Obviously things had gone too far. Beau couldn't just do it anymore.
"Mia is not pregnant! We're not getting married! We're not even dating! I made it all up because I wanted Victoria off my back."
The whole room went silent. Beau searched the space to find Mia. She was standing near the table with a plate of food, looking at him shocked as much as the others.
"I knew it!" Victoria shouted from across the way. "It was really pathetic of you to put on this whole show just because you didn't want to marry me."
But Beau ignored her, looking only at Mia, who appeared to be a dear caught in head lights. Before Beau could reached her, she was leaving the hut. He followed after her, brushing off the questions of his family members as he went. Just moments after her, he entered their hut. What happened next was not what he expected.
Mia leaned against the dresser with a smile on her face as she looked at him. "Great job, Barney. Now we're completely done for."
"I'm sorry I dragged you into this Mia. I hadn't meant for everything to go this way. I just got caught up." Beau was surprised she wasn't crying and didn't know how to handle the situation.
She shrugged. "I am curious as to why you blurted it all out. We only had two more days left."
"My mother call a minister to marry us tonight. She even bought a wedding dress for you."
Mia eyes widen. "Oh..."
Beau nodded. "Yeah..."
She stood up straight and approached him slowly, making Beau feel nervous. Though, if she went to hit him, he wouldn't block it. After all, he deserved it for embarrassing her like that.
Instead she shocked him again by sliding her hands onto his shoulders and rising up to place a kiss on his lips. When she pulled away, it was his turn to look shocked. "I figured you deserved a reward for ensuring we really didn't get marry," She stated with a smile.
Beau leaned down and recaptured her lips with his. She didn't fight it, instead leaning closer into his touch. Their lips moved against one another in a rhythm that only confirmed Beau suspicion that he wouldn't mind kissing her for an eternity.
When they finally broke apart to take in air they had lost from their lungs, he asked, "So, Miss Mia, would you like to go on a date with this Papa Smurf?"
She chuckled. "Oh, I would love to."
“By the way, Barney is purple, not blue.”
Maybe lies did sometimes result in something good.
