Jesus said, “When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and when you say, ‘Mountain, move away,’ it will move away.”
There is a Divine power in us to be awakened, our soul and Divine self. That Divine potential is not far removed from us. It exists within our humanity, and cultivating our humanity, we naturally and spontaneously awaken it. For this reason, we hear the Word of the Lord in the prophets calling us to a worship in Spirit and Truth in a practical way through ethical and moral behavior; for submitting ourselves to ethical and moral behavior, living with sincerity, integrity, and a good heart, is the cultivation of our human spirit. We are called to have concern for and to help the orphan, the widow, and the oppressed; to reach out to the outcast in love and compassion and to seek social justice and freedom for one and all; to concern ourselves with all living souls and to act as caretakers of all creatures, the environment, and the earth—to actively labor for an enlightened human society. All mystical and spiritual practices aside, such cultivation of our humanity for heaven’s sake, with faith in God or the potential of enlightenment, naturally serves to awaken the Divine power of our soul and Christ-self. It is this practical spiritual living, coupled with spiritual practices of mystical prayer and prophetic meditation, that Yeshua Messiah taught his disciple as the Way.
The inside and outside must be brought into an integral union, the male and female aspects of ourselves made co-equal and complete in one another, the earthly and heavenly part of our soul united, all fragments of consciousness integrated with the indwelling Christ-self, our authentic individuality in God. The Divine power that flows through us when this unification occurs is unimaginable and beyond description, and so here the Master uses an analogy that indicates something of the incredible power that actually exists in potential within each and every one of us—a power that can do the seemingly impossible.
From other sayings in the gospels, we understand the active agent of this Divine power as faith. It is faith that opens us to Divine possibilities we otherwise might not imagine; it is faith that makes us increasingly more sensitive to the Spirit of God in our lives; and it is faith that creates the conditions necessary for miracles to happen. Faith is the intuition of an experience we have not yet had, and therefore the invocation of that spiritual or mystical experience. Faith is the certainty of things not seen and the awareness that, with God, nothing is impossible. It is a great and awesome magic-power, and a most significant part of what makes us truly human. By nature, a human being is a creature of faith and worship, and until faith is born in us, as with certain other innately human qualities, it may be rightly said that we are not yet human beings in the fullest possible sense. A little faith can move mountains and make great wonders transpire, and through faith, we are redeemed from our ignorance and forgetfulness. One might say that faith is the holy remembrance that we are children of the Light, sons and daughters of the Living God. The Master is speaking of the power of faith to make us authentic individuals and heal every dis-ease—hence, that which gives both peace and joy. Let us keep the faith that we might cleave to life! Amen.
