Verse 24

His disciples said to him, “Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it.“

He said to them, “Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness.“

Here, the Lord speaks of the interior life, living from within one’s Godly soul (Nefesh Elokit) and the Christ-self, which naturally brings forth the Light of God into one’s life, so that oneself, one’s environment, and one’s life are the extension of that Divine illumination. In effect, the Lord says, “I am within you, and when you contact the Christ-Spirit in you and bring your Godly soul forward, you will know the place where I am, for I am wherever you are.“

As one beloved saint proclaimed, “Why do you seek your Lord outside of you? For as the fragrance abides in the flower and your reflection abides in the mirror, so does your Holy Lord abide within you.“ Truly, this is the most wonderful news, for we know where to seek the Lord and how to enter into communion with God, and so the Way is opened before us. We need only turn our attention inward and Godward to enter into the holy sanctuary and meet with the Beloved.

At this point, it must be said that, in receiving teachings and initiations of the secret wisdom, we are not actually receiving something from outside ourselves nor anything we do not already possess inwardly. Rather, it is an education in the truest possible sense—a drawing out of what is within. Until we are educated, that is to say, until we draw out that which is within ourselves, we remain in bondage to ignorance. Our liberation is simply the recognition and realization of the Light that is within and living in such a way as to let that Holy Light shine forth.

This is a beautiful, simple, and direct verse, so it seems to me the less commentary the better. Understanding the context, it speaks for itself. The Spirit of the Messiah is within you, within everyone you meet.
