While in Sweden, we met the loveliest couple, Peter and Fossy. They introduced us to the classic Nordic drink, glogg, which is delicious. We left Sweden with a love for this drink and wonderful new friends. This is our combination of the classic American mulled cider and Swedish glogg.
INGREDIENTS
1 bottle (750 ml) Cabernet Sauvignon
3½ cups apple cider
½ cup honey
½ cup apple brandy
1 apple, diced (we used an unpeeled Honeycrisp)
Zest of 1 orange, and large orange slices (we used Cara cara)
1 cup purple seedless grapes
½ cup currants
3 star anise
10 whole cloves
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp ginger powder
⅛ tsp ground cardamom
3 cinnamon sticks
DIRECTIONS
In a large sauce pan, add all the ingredients. Stir and cook on medium-low heat until hot. Serve the sangria with the drunken fruit and a cinnamon stick from the pan.
You can make this in advance, cover, and store in the refrigerator.
