For my Eagle Scout project I decided to make and send care packages overseas to our men and women serving in the Armed Forces. After contacting the United Service Organization (USO) in Jacksonville, Florida, I had a list of items to put into the packages. The USO recommended that I fill the boxes with the kinds of things people normally have around the house, the kinds of things we take for granted.
I made copies of the list to hand out to people, and my church’s bulletin placed an announcement about collecting the items. I was also able to put a box in my church for people to place their donations. Even the Cub Scouts and a summer Band Camp helped collect items. After a month and a half of collecting, I got the flat rate boxes the packages would be shipped in. With my fellow Boy Scouts, we filled sixty-six boxes with care packages that my parents and I took to the USO.
There were many people other than me who made this delivery of care packages possible: my parents, troop leaders, other scouts, parishioners of my church, and the USO. I am proud to have been able to show our military personnel in this small way how much people appreciate their service. May God bless them always!
