* On August 3, 1943, at an evacuation hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus, Patton slapped and verbally abused Pte. Charles H. Kuhl, who was recovering from battle fatigue. On August 10, in similar circumstances, he slapped Pte. Paul G. Bennett. Following each incident, the general ordered the men back to the front lines and further issued orders to his subordinates to discipline any other US soldier complaining of similar difficulties.
