ABOUT THE AUTHOR

DAVID PLANTE, who has lived more than half of his life in Europe, has published extensively: novels, articles, and short stories. He was the first Westerner to teach at the Gorky Institute of Literature in Moscow and was recently named Professor of Writing at Columbia University. He is a Guggenheim Fellow and an American Academy prizewinner, and a senior member of King’s College, Cambridge.
