Startups and technology have been a disruptive force to traditional means of wealth creation. But the venture capitalists deciding which founders receive investment and reap the rewards of successful startups overwhelmingly are white men with similar backgrounds. In a 2018 survey, 8 in 10 venture capitalists were male, 7 in 10 were white, and 4 in 10 had a degree from Stanford or Harvard.
