Many Thanks
Thanking everyone involved in this enterprise would challenge anyone’s grasp of superlatives.
I cannot imagine a more tireless editor than Olga Greco, who made so many tactfully incisive suggestions. I am also indebted to everyone else at Skyhorse Publishing, including Joe Craig, Rain Saukas, Ashley Vanicek, Stacey Fischkelta, and many others. It was all set up by my exceptional agent, Roger Williams.
Assembling this book has also been something of a family affair. My wife, Betsy, has been invaluably involved in every stage of this preparation. Our son, Bill, has lent his expert counsel on marketing, and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Gullan, somehow found the time to do an extensive survey of pictorial possibilities. My experienced associate and neighbor Elsa Efran was helpful as usual, and her husband, Dr. Jay Efran, actually kept the computer functioning reasonably well.
Angelina Renee Monroe hastened our input from many separate sources. Our vital archivists have included: Vanessa Erlichman of Polaris Images; Polly Nodine and Ryan Rutkowski of the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum; Elizabeth Druga and Kenneth Hafeli of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum; Elizabeth Harman of the Lyndon B. Johnson Library; Elizabeth Shortt of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library; Matthew C. Hanson of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library; Herbert Ragan of the Clinton Presidential Library; Heather G. Cole of the Theodore Roosevelt Collection; Houghton Library, Harvard University; Kathy Struss of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum; Laurie Austin, Jennifer Quan, and Kyla Ryan of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum; John F. Fletcher of the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library; Mary Finch of the George Bush Presidential Library Museum; Steve Branch of the Reagan Presidential Library; Dawn Bonner of Mt. Vernon’s Fred W. Smith Library for the Study of George Washington; and Julie Stoner of the Library of Congress.
And, most of all, my thanks to you, the ultimate reader.
