Taking an Overview

image

‘He is a great observer, and he looks

Quite through the deeds of men.’

Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

Take a completely fresh look at the situation. No matter what others may say or do, put yourself in the position of a detached observer. Be open-minded, unemotional and ready to learn. Taking an overview will help you to appreciate how the current state of affairs has come about. Gradually you will acquire a deeper understanding of what is involved. It will become clear to you what the end result will be if matters carry on developing in this way. Because your ideas make sense, others will be prepared to listen. They will appreciate that your views are fair and well-balanced. Act with integrity to yourself. Use your knowledge to benefit others not to manipulate the situation for your own ends.

An opportunity for personal growth

As your understanding of the situation grows, it must be translated into action. Fresh insights are essential but can only be of benefit once they are incorporated into your life. Old attitudes must change. Learning not to take things too personally is a major lesson at this time. This means that your approach to people and events will be based on a wider perspective than usual. As a result you will not be easily fooled. At the same time you will become more tolerant of others and their mistakes. The overall effect will be that your influence on the situation will grow without any effort on your part. Others will be receptive to your vision and your clear understanding.

Further aspects of the situation

SIX AT THE BEGINNING

You have little understanding of the situation. You relate everything back to yourself and how it affects you personally. This attitude might be expected of a child. But for an adult it is regrettable. You must be more open-minded and develop a wider perspective.

SIX IN THE SECOND PLACE

Your current outlook is much too limited. You need to be more curious about life beyond your own narrow sphere of existence. Otherwise you cannot hope to understand another person’s motives. Broaden your outlook by trying to imagine what life is like from other people’s point of view.

SIX IN THE THIRD PLACE

Get to know yourself better. Do this not by becoming self-absorbed but by learning to be more objective about yourself. Be aware of how the choices you make affect your environment. Receiving positive feedback indicates that are on the right track. Whereas if matters are deteriorating, it is a sign that you need to change your approach.

SIX IN THE FOURTH PLACE

Your current experience is providing an opportunity to expand your horizons. Your ability to see the wider picture will give you considerable influence in the situation.

NINE IN THE FIFTH PLACE

If you are in a position of influence over others, you must take your responsibilities seriously. It is up to you to set an example. You will know if you are succeeding by observing the effect you are having on those involved. If you can see positive results, you can safely assume that your influence is beneficial.

NINE AT THE TOP

The best position of all is that of being unconcerned with personal ambition. If you are not motivated by self-interest you have the precious gift of true inner freedom. Without any effort on your part, your influence on the situation will make itself felt.
