As I write these words, the entire world is in a state of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Extraordinary times, to say the least. However bleak the situation may be—and at this point, there is much to feel anxious about—it is at times such as these where humanity's ingenuity rises to the occasion. Many in the maker community, which I am a part of, have with astonishing speed taken to creating personal protective equipment (PPE) with 3D printers for those on the front lines. Factories designed to produce cars have quickly transitioned to making much-needed medical equipment. Entertainers continue to entertain us, teachers continue to teach their students, and leaders continue to inform us, all through the miracle of modern video and internet technologies.
Somewhere, the next Isaac Newton is using the time in lockdown developing the next breakthrough technology or world-changing formula, just as Newton himself did waiting out the Great Plague of the mid-1660s. Hopefully, by the time you read these words, the worst is behind us and a new future is opening up—one where technology will continue to lead the way to a better life.
In this book, we've covered the how in edge analytics. It's now time to look back at what we've learned and use it to predict the future—a better future: the reason why we spend our time learning new technologies.
In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:
- Recapping what we have learned about edge analytics
- Looking at the future of edge analytics
