It was our silver wedding anniversary—August 28, 2001—and, as it happened, the part of the day that we spent with our child turned out to be a little volatile. I felt deeply troubled. A friend detected my dejection from the tone of my e-mail note to him, and this is what he wrote back:
Relax and let me do the praying. I’ll carry the load today. Remember that this is your anniversary—August 28. On the calendar, that is 8/28, as in Romans 8:28. God has promised that everything that happens today will work for good. Now, I’ll take up the praying, and you enjoy the day with your wife.
Such friends are more valuable than our daily bread and more precious than gold and silver.
