LIST 6 | 9 US Companies Allowed to Manufacture Illegal Drugs |
A small number of companies in the US are permitted by the Drug Enforcement Administration to manufacturer or grow illegal substances. Why? Some drugs, such as pot and coke, are prescribed to an extremely limited number of people. In other cases, the drugs are used as chemical references, so labs that test seized illegal drugs have a standard for comparison. Some of the legally-created drugs are used in the manufacture of home narc kits, which parents use to find out if their kids are druggies. Still others are an intermediate step in the creation of industrial chemicals. I would imagine that employee pilfering is more of a problem at these companies than most.
1
One of the two most well-versed chemical companies, Accustandard, Inc. (Connecticut) is allowed to create practically every drug on Schedule I and nine on Schedule II. It is the only American company allowed to produce opium.
2
Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc. (Ohio) is permitted to brew LSD, ecstasy, GHB, mescaline, psilocybin, oxycodone, and meth. Call them for your next rave!?
3
Cerilliant Corporation (Texas) has permission to cook up almost any Schedule I or II drug. It and Accustandard are the only two companies that can legally make bufotenine (a psychoactive substance occurring naturally in some Amazonian plants and the venom of Bufo toads).
4
The New Age-sounding Lifepoint, Inc. (California) produces speed.
5
Organix, Inc. (Massachusetts) is one of fourteen corporations (five in Massachusetts alone) allowed to make cocaine. Perhaps that state's slogan could be changed to, “The coke capitol of the US.”
6
The Polaroid Corporation (Massachusetts), of camera fame, is allowed to produce 2,5-dimethoxyamphetamine, a psychedelic amphetamine in the same class as ecstasy and DOM. According to the DEA, this phenythylamine is then converted into a “non-controlled substance.”
7
The US division of Roche Diagnostics Corporation, itself a division of the Swiss pharmaceutical giant, can create morphine, LSD, and several other drugs for use in its home drug-test kits. (Are there really teenagers out there using morphine?)
8
Sigma Aldrich Research (Massachusetts) produces heroin, much like Bayer did when it introduced smack to the world in 1898. It also offers LSD, coke, meth, and ice (a/k/a U4Euh).
9
The University of Mississippi, through its National Center for Development of Natural Products, is one of only three US entities allowed to grow pot.
Drug Quote # 5
“Coffee is a strong psychoactive drug; its direct pharmacological effects are more powerful than those of cannabis.”
–Andrew Weil, M.D.
