CALL MY BLUFF
JIMMY PLAYED WITH BETTY’S NOSTRILS (JPWBN)
GET CREATIVE WITH ACRONYMS!
PREPARATION
Player 1 begins and comes up with any letter and announces it. Player 2 comes up with a second letter. Player 3 comes up with another, and so on until there are five letters. All players write the letters down at the top of a piece of paper in the order they were provided. Players also number a separate sheet of paper vertically from 1 to the total number of players in the game.
OBJECTIVE
Each player must come up with the most creative sentence/ phrase from five randomly selected letters to earn the most votes and, thus, the most points.
GAME TIME
Each player in the game must now come up with a creative five-word sentence using those starting letters in the order they were given.
IMPORTANT: The sentences don’t need to make sense, but be sure to write clearly and legibly. Someone will need to be able to read your sentence, and you don’t want people passing around your sentence for clarification!
When everyone is finished, all players crumple their sentence into a ball and place it in the middle of the table, and Player 1 mixes them up. Now each player randomly picks one up to read.
Player 1 writes the number 1 on the first sentence, announces, “Here is sentence number 1,” and reads it aloud without revealing who he thinks wrote the sentence. (The authors will not be revealed until the very end.) After Player 1 reads the first sentence, each player (including Player 1) writes the sentence down next to number 1 on his or her paper. Player 2 then places the number 2 on the sentence she has, announces that it is sentence number 2, and reads it aloud for everyone to write down next to number 2. Continue on like this until all sentences have been read. Every player then looks at them all again and votes for the top two most creative, interesting, or funny sentences. (If there are more than eight players in the game, everyone should vote for the top three sentences.)
One at a time, each player reveals which two sentences he or she wants to vote for, and Player 1 (or the player leading the round) tallies points. After the authors reveal themselves and points are awarded, the next round begins. For the next round, Player 2 selects the first letter, Player 3 selects the next, and so on.
NOTE: You cannot vote for your own sentence! SCORING
The person with the sentence that receives the most votes earns 20 points, second place earns 10, and third earns 5. If there is a tie for first, each of those players get 20 points. If there is a tie for second, each of those players get 10 points, and so on.
EXAMPLE
Let’s say the letters for this round, in order of selection from Player 1 to Player 5, are JPWBN. For these letters, one might say “Jimmy played with Betty’s nostrils” or “Joanne painted Wally’s blue newt” or “Joe Pesci wanted bigger napkins.” Be as creative as possible.
