TRY TO REMEMBER

WELL, THAT’S SOMETHING YOU DON’T HEAR EVERY DAY!

PREPARATION

In each round of this game, every player combines two words that rarely go together (e.g., shoe salt, iguana picnic, melon toe, egg pants, monkey cheese, etc.) without revealing either word to the rest of the players.

IMPORTANT: No writing is allowed in this game!

OBJECTIVE

Players compete to be the first to shout out the uncommon combo when they hear the second clue.

GAME TIME & EXAMPLE

Player 1 comes up with his own definition or description for the first of his two words and says it out loud. (For example, if his two-word combination is shoe salt, his first description might be “You wear it on your foot” or “Sometimes it has laces.”) These clues should be fairly simple. Nobody says any-thing after hearing the description, and no one writes anything down. After Player 1 describes his first word, Player 2 describes her first word, and so on until every player has given a definition or description for the first half of each two-word combination.

Once it rotates back to Player 1, the guessing begins. Player 1 will now give a definition or description of his second word. (For the above example, shoe salt, his description for salt might be “It goes with pepper” or “Its synonym is sodium chloride” or “A condiment you put on food to make it taste better.”)

Players must attempt to guess the full word combination by deciphering the current clue for the second word and remembering the clue provided by Player 1 for the first word. If nobody guesses correctly after a certain amount of time, Player 1 continues to give new clues for both words until someone guesses the combo. Then Player 2 gives the description or definition of her second word, and so on until every two-word combo has been guessed.

Everyone comes up with new two-word combos for the next round.

SCORING

The first player to say the correct answer for a combination gets 1 point. Set a number of rounds to play, and the most total points wins.

REMEMBER: The answer is not just Player 1’s second word; it is the combination. Players must remember the description of his first word and combine the two! Just giving one of the two words will not earn players any points.
