1. Here’s an unusual way to use lilies of the valley in a design—as a vertical border! Begin with a basecoat of Basil Green. Let dry. Place the long curving vine and pull shorter stems off the main vine using the chisel edge of your brush. Paint the large leaves, then use a script liner to paint the little stemlets for the blossoms.

2. Paint the backs of all the lily of the valley bells using white with a touch of light green. Vary the number of blossoms and their direction.

3. Finish each little bell by painting the fronts. Pick up more white on the brush and keep the white side to the ruffly edge of the bell and the light green side to the base. This vertical border would look lovely alongside a window frame or doorway. For a long border, keep repeating the design shown here, curving the main vine back and forth in a graceful wave.
