Eitan could not wait to get back in his hotel room and phone his wife once the meeting was over. Now that the mission had succeeded, Yehoshua gave him the green light to let his wife know the details of the assignment. “Just be discreet, Eitan. No one else needs to know about this,” he added.
Yehoshua would spend the rest of the day with the prime minister, but Eitan’s job was completed for the day.
As he was about to leave for the next event on the schedule, Yehoshua said to Eitan, “Why don’t you walk back to the hotel and relax for a little while? You deserve it.”
“Thank you, Yehoshua. Thanks for everything,” Eitan responded.
“No, thank you, Eitan. You have done a great service for our people,” Yehsohua said, patting his friend on the back. “You know what? When this is over tomorrow, why don’t you take some time with your wife and come visit me in Israel? I know you still have a few months left on your sabbatical, and going back to Ukraine is no longer in the cards. I’d love to host you on my kibbutz. I know there are some big fans of your grandfather there that would love to see you!” Yehoshua said in his best salesman’s voice.
“It’s a good idea, Yehoshua. Emma and I could certainly use a vacation together. Let me ask her, and I’ll get back to you.”
“Sounds good, Eitan. For now, get some rest. You did good. The State of Israel is indebted to you, my friend,” Yehoshua said proudly.
“It’s like my grandfather used to say—we are Jews. We all must do our part for our people,’” Eitan said.
Yehoshua smiled and said, “Go see your wife and then call me. We are excited to host you in Israel soon!”
