CHAPTER 66

Miami Beach

The day was almost over when Eitan heard a knock on his office door. A couple of meetings with b’nei mitzvah families had taken his mind off security for a few hours. That was until he looked up and saw his head of security, Avishai Levi, standing at his door.

“Can I come in rabbi?”

“Of course, Avishai. What’s going on?”

Avishai was a former Israeli paratrooper who later became head of the security detail for two Israeli prime ministers. He moved to Miami about twenty years ago after meeting his American wife on vacation in New York City. The American Jewish community cherished his expertise. Since the massacre in Pittsburgh at the Tree of Life Congregation, congregants were constantly clamoring for more and more security capability. Everyone at Temple Brit Kodesh felt fortunate to have Avishai leading the team that patrolled its grounds.

“I just heard from my contact at the FBI. They just found another trove of those ‘Jews caused Covid’ flyers plastered around the Aventura area. They found them in mailboxes of Jews and near a couple of the synagogues,” Avishai explained.

“In Aventura? Every mailbox there is Jewish.”

“I guess these bastards know where to look,” Avishai responded.

“Does your contact think they came from the same source as the last few times?” the rabbi asked.

“Most likely. They are just looking for publicity. As usual, he does not see any threat of violence. Just these small-time groups looking to stir up trouble.”

“Same as always. A few degenerates from the backwoods of Tennessee who travel the country trying to make it look like they are everywhere. And that there are antisemites joining their cause all over the country.”

“Exactly, rabbi. That is why we shouldn’t give them any attention,” Avishai said. “You and I know that. But the media loves this stuff. And soon it will be on every Jewish social media outlet before any of them really know all of the details.”

“They get everyone all riled up sometimes for nothing. But, as usual, we will be extra careful. Especially with the holidays coming up.”

“Thanks, Avishai. Let me know if you hear anything else.”

“Will do,” Avishai said as he walked out of the office.
