The sheep seem to be defined by the flock. Their individual traits are determined by their role in the group. For example, it’s almost always the same individual who finds holes in the fence. Some have a greater tendency to defend themselves and the flock, while others stay in the middle, always protected by others. I think they also have slightly different roles in searching for pasture to graze: some seem to get sent out on recon a way off from the group. It’s almost as though you can view the flock as a single organism, and the individuals as mere aspects of the same thing. What if sheep view us the same way?
