7.4    Summary

In this chapter, we explored different existing tools and approaches (local and central) for managing and monitoring your SAP PI landscape from different angles. Whether you’re managing a simple or complex integration landscape or performing component or messaging monitoring, the AEX offers an integrated and complete toolset to put you in control of your integration solutions running on top of the AEX.

We also looked at the role and added value provided by SAP Solution Manager when positioned as a central monitoring platform. Its main features in terms of central alerting and root-cause analysis are essential for keeping your AEX installations in good shape and for reacting fast when problems arise.

We covered all relevant AEX administration and monitoring tools, including topics such as message retention and user-defined message search. We also showed you how to perform administration tasks using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator, including monitoring message traffic, communication channels, and caches.

Finally, we explained how to deal with exceptions on the Java-only stack and how you can effectively debug and analyze those error situations by making use of the standard logging functionality provided by the AEX.

If you’re still running an old-school SAP PI dual-stack system, the next chapter helps you prepare your migration strategy from a dual to a single Java stack by walking through the different options to reach that goal.
