My mother passed away when I was sixteen. Though it’s been many years since her death, I still remember her vividly. Her passing when I was young causes me to treasure even more the time God has given me to spend with my daughters in their adulthood.
Tomorrow would be your birthday,
Were you still here today,
And so I start remembering,
Your manner and your way.
Always kind to others,
Ne’er a mean word ever said.
Where others would have criticized,
Your silence spoke instead.
Your family and your love of God
Ranked highest on your heart.
You loved the family gatherings;
What joy they would impart.
I wish you had lived longer,
So we could have had a time
Of loving friendship as adults,
The mother-daughter kind.
