The Blessing of Serving the Elderly
Her hair, thinning; the color of a dull, silver coin.
Her skin, splotchy with age spots, and lined with wrinkles etched by her years.
Her mouth, partially open, as if the hinge is tired and stretched from much use.
Her eyes, dull and unaware . . .
Until you speak to her with a word of encouragement and interest in her being.
Then the eyes take on a gleam and sparkle, an awareness that you care and consider her something more than a blob of matter needing sustenance, and requiring your labor. Her eyes tell you, even though she cannot express it in words, you make her feel loved, important, and wanted.
God is speaking to her through you and me!
