11" × 14" (28cm × 36cm), Golden high-flow paint, inks on Dura-Lar
WHILE THERE ARE MANY APPROACHES on how to get started painting abstract art, my philosophy is to simply start. In this chapter you will be offered different warm-up exercises that will hopefully inspire you to jump in with both brushes, as well as experiment with new surfaces. With these quick and loose exercises, you will begin to build a library of ideas, color palettes, patterns and designs you can incorporate in future paintings. My goal in this chapter, and throughout the rest of this book, is for you to dive in with an open mind and fearless heart. You’ll find you produce many more masterpieces when you develop a healthy practice of doing your art as often as possible. What are you waiting for? Grab your paints and get busy!
